Marlene Filla, LMFT
Marlene Filla, LMFT
My name is Marlene Filla and I am a bilingual licensed Marriage and Family therapist who has worked in the mental health area for 25 years. In 1998 I obtained my Psychology degree and in 2008 I obtained a Master’s degree in Family Therapy from from Texas Woman’s University.
In 2011 I obtained a certification as a Positive Discipline Parent Educator because I enjoy guiding parents to focus on solutions when dealing with the daily challenges of parenting.
My therapeutic approach falls under Solution Focused Therapy and Psychoanalytic Family Therapy. That means that I put an emphasis on short term goals to help my clients work on their main problems of concern as well as identifying their relational dynamics and ways to improve their family or work relationships.
Marriage and couple's relationships has been one of the areas where I have found a great need for support and help. I have worked with couples of different cultural backgrounds helping them improve their communication skills, learn de-escalation of emotions, management of disagreements and many other topics that are present in daily couple's relationships.
Other areas of experience include anxiety and depression that have been some of the most common symptoms in recent years in our society. I help my clients discover their own potential for change with new coping skills and understanding of the underlying causes that are affecting their lives.

I believe play, art and sand tray therapy has a significant impact on children and adolescents as it is the primary language of emotion and can foster brain development. Often times talk therapy is limited as emotions and trauma are often stored in the body where memories can also exist.
